Time: 11AM - 6:00 PM
Juneteenth is the official Celebration of the Emancipation of Slavery generally celebrated on June nineteenth (19th). Think of it as the Aferican American 4th of July (without the fireworks- that is). In honor of Father's Day and the weekend, we celebrate Juneteenth; June 15 (Fifteenth). There will be vendors selling crafts and food (really good food), activities for kids, games for parents and their children, a wonderful showcase, great raffle prizes and Trivia about the African American journey. This is just a short list of all the great things that will happen at Juneteenth so if you want to stay current on all the updates please register.
This year, Umoja Events will be celebrating 10 Years of serving the community. The Annual Juneteenth Festival titled "Back to The Future" will be like no other past festival. Juneteenth "Back to The Future" Festival will be taking you through the journey of the African American experience using the lens of love. We will be going back and forth between old school (The Past) and new school (The Present). Juneteenth NYC originally started on Vermont and Jamaica avenues so this year we will have a parade from the old location directly to the current home on Linden blvd and Vermont Street, only 2 miles away. The parade will be guided by; a steel pan band, marching band, dancers, elected officials and community members. We are calling this the Unity Parade! The goal would be to give out balloon hearts as we walk down the streets and encourage followers to join us at Gershwin Park for more fun festivities. We are expecting about 500 people to participate in the Unity Parade. We hope you will be one of them.
RAIN or SHINE the show must go on!
We have sponsors who are very generous and like to give away cool things. In previous years we have had:
The Brooklyn Nets Team giving out shirts, hats and balls

Pepsi Co.: Gave out over 2,000 bottles of Juice and Water to attendees

And Much More. So Please register so you can hear about what to expect on this wonderful family day. Bring your kids, Father's, Mother's cousin's, etc. We promise you will have a safe fun time.
